Biography of David O'Brien
David was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1964 and grew up in neighboring Tewksbury. As the youngest child of a single mother who raised five kids with the help of public assistance, David learned first hand the importance of investing in families. He also learned the value of how hard work and a helping hand can make us realize our full potential.
From Head Start to Harvard
David and his brother, Paul, both attended Head Start, a pre-kindergarten program for low-income children. He graduated from Tewksbury High, then received an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Merrimack College, and later earned a Master in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where he met his wife, Julie. Today, they live in Concord, MA with their two boys, Sam and Carter.
Opportunity Builder
David's professional life has been dedicated to building opportunities for people throughout the world. He was called up by President Clinton to help build the national service program, AmeriCorps. He has twice been called to the international arena to help Ukraine build its fledgling democracy; and today, he and his brother, Kevin, are doing something no one thought possible - rebuilding a community out of a troubled public housing project in Lowell.
Democratic Principles
David’s commitment to the values of the Democratic Party is unyielding. He has served as a national staff member of four presidential campaigns, and as a member of the Democratic National Committee since 1996, and the Democratic State Committee since 1992. As the proud father of two growing boys, David is concerned about the future of our country. He is running to ensure that all of our children have the opportunity to realize their full potential and not be burdened with the problems that we leave behind.
